Portrait

Hello,

I'm James O'Hare, a 24 year old game artist and I've been creating game art since I was 17.

Originally, I hail from Glasgow, but I'm currently living in Leeds, working with the good guys at Rockstar Leeds.

Skills

My favoured tools of the trade are modo, Photoshop & ZBrush.

I'm able to use LightWave, 3DSMax and Mudbox competently and have limited experience in Maya and XSI (mostly rigging and animation).

I also enjoy a little scripting and have created small tool enhancement scripts for modo, Maya and 3DS Max. The modo ones can be found on the resources page.

Brief History

My start in games art was with the Half-Life 2 modification Hull-Breach, which I was involved with for several years and it was this project and the talented folk involved with it that properly sparked my passion for creating real-time rather than pre-rendered artwork.

Since then, I've voraciously consumed all the knowledge of game art and development I can get my hands on, helped out in various other mods and indie projects before moving to freelance work and finally starting a career proper in development studios. I still like to help out with indie games and mods here and there when I can.

Favourite Games

I have a love for deep, story and character based games - or games that encourage exploration - and the FPS/RPG hybrid genre has fast become my favourite. Which is heavily reflected in my favourite games.

Deus Ex, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, The Longest Journey & Dreamfall, Psychonauts, LucasArts point-and-clicks, System Shock 2, Shadow of the Colossus, Mass Effect, STALKER, Borderlands.
